Meeting Minutes

á      UPDATES

á      D.B.Yummers, Tim Tosca, Florida Farm Bureau, Florida Fruit Association, and Fruit Growers Marketing (Ohio Apples). Provided the meal- Thank you!

á      Update from fruit sales- Jeff Detty

o   BBQ.  Let Jeff know if there were any problems last year.  Please fill out the order form and include when you want items delivered as well as any blackout dates. Pricing the same- $30 case, $2.50 bottle, $18 gallon, 4 packs $.80. Orders due by 11/16/2018.  Call Jeff at 740-505-4021.  Can match delivery with other schools. Make sure that all billing information is updated to 10871 Carr Road, Jeffersonville, OH 43128

o   Citrus and Apples. Check with preferred rep- tangelos are very low supply, probably will not be able to get bulk tangelos.

á      The Ohio State University Representative- Caryn Filson

o   Moved into the new space, drastic renovation

o   112 students in agriscience education across all campus, 61 at Columbus, 24 brand new.

o   ACEL 268 students, 179 at Columbus

o   Dr. Amanda Boling is permanent resident in the department

o   Block students return Monday, 15 students, student teach in the spring

o   36 EFE students

o   Curriculum changing next year, Block is changing. Block semester is being spread out over 4 years, new methods class (junior and senior), multiple field experience

o   Student teacher placements- new format, application, and interview. Discuss where to send students to best fit the student.

o   Dan Schroder and Craig Weiget helped supervise students.

o   Contact Dr. Filson or Emily Wickham if you wish to be on the mailing list

á      Central State University Representative- John Henry

o   First fall with full programming for ag ed, 11 students enrolled, only 2 with ag ed or FFA background

o   Working on getting students engaged who are not traditionally in agriculture

o   Add full time assistance professor, Katrina Swinehart, August 16th.  Developing methods course, student leadership, ag science foundations course, teach introductory content courses.

o   Small campus, 1800 students, avg class size 12 students.

o   Lowest tuition state of Ohio, 3rd lowest in the nation

o   Adding research staff and full time staff, completing more research

o   Willing to allow students to interact with research facility.

o   $5,114 from last year (may not be a up to date number)

¤  Housebill 108-require a financial literacy, moved to senate. Not as favorable as originally planned, not allow ag business, needs amended to allow for ag business to count. May die, been around a long time.

¤  Pay your dues, can pay whatever membership you wish

¤  ACTE Success series- $90 to attend, unless you are a ACTE member, then its only 45!

¤  OAAE has merchandise available, see email from Rachel

¤  33% of teachers were members last yearÉÉif only 33% of your students were FFA members, how would you feel?

o   CDE AdvisoryÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉ..........................................Deb Burden

¤  Check on D7 Calendar of events and provided a state calendar

¤  Ag Sales is no longer with state public speaking @ Marysville, will be 3/5 (Tuesday) at Marysville Armory

¤  Remember to add proctors

¤  Takes 7 days for results to be final when posted- with in that 7 days, notify Tom ASAP if there are any problems- affects results and billing.  After 7 days if you make a change, there will be additional billing.

¤  Looking at potentially doing an FFA knowledge quiz for all age groups, $10 per person, only use 1 time for state degree, but can take multiple years

¤  Make sure to read the general rules and follow the code of conduct

¤  Remember to sign your compliance form

¤  Testing- must be done by the proctor. No teacher should look at, proctor, or take the test as a student

¤  Next meeting October 10th.

¤  Scott Sharp, Ag Issues- on the National level, you are better to have more forums, it puts you at a better advantage when competing. Would like to see if scoring can be added to account for schools who do more forums. (forums after the state contest do not count) Moved by Scott, 2nd by Tilley. Passes 19 to 0. Deb will take to council

¤  Report subdistrict results to Deb, including how many students participated in the entire event.

o   FFA Camp BoardÉÉÉÉÉ.ÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉ. ÉÉÉÉ.........Adam Staley

¤  Meeting in a couple weeks. 

¤  Lots of money invested in camp and updates are very nice/positive

¤  If you have never been to camp, try to go!

¤  Need to make sure we have students who are attending camp- numbers are declining

¤  With less students, may change camp format, less sessions, etc.

¤  Not a lot going on at the moment, but items can be taken as needed

¤  Bring legislators/administrators to the convention

á      Move the idea of Thursday morning session to resemble the former Blue and Gold Banquet. Where we would invite principals, superintendents, School Board Members, Legislators, and Sponsors of local and Ohio FFA. Cost could be used as a foundation fundraiser. Get Ohio Farm Bureau and City BBQ to donate (as they are huge supporters)

¤  Bring back dance at Rhodes Center Thursday night.

o   Scott Sharp- State Ag Com is the same weekend as Farm Machinery Show in Louisville (probably wont change this year)

o   Deb Burden- Ohio Historical Society has selected Fredericktown for a marker. Invitation for unveiling to follow.  Will be held at the Fredericktown Tomato Show, Saturday 9/8 at 7pm. Please attend! Drones will be taking photos- have students wear official dress, past members, wear jackets or bring someone who can wear their old jacket. Will be taking lots of pictures. Will be a website for commemorative apparel that anyone can order. Ask Deb is any questions

o   Jenna Kemmerer- moved to budget $100 for mentorship/new teacher. 2nd by Scott Sharp. Motion passes
