November Meeting

The next meeting of the Amanda Clearcreek FFA chapter will be held on Monday, November 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the old Ag shop. The ag challenge is the egg toss. Each grade level needs to start thinking about who they want to represent them.
Hog Roast

The 2003-04 Hog Roast will be held on Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00 p.m. It will be held in the cafetorium. There will also be an open house to view the new ag facilities. Freshmen and sophomore families are asked to bring a dinner item and junior and senior families are asked to bring a dessert item. The chapter will provide the meat, drinks, and rolls. Everyone is welcome and is asked to bring their own table service. This is a great chance for parents to get an idea of what the chapter does and meet the officer team as well as the advisors. Come out and see the new facility and join us for good food and a good time.
Ag Breakfast

The November ag breakfast was held at Tee Jayes on Thursday, November 6th at 7:00 a.m. The next Ag Breakfast will be held on Thursday, December 4th.

Fruit Sale

The fruit sale is up and running but hurry time is running out. If you want to purchase fruit and have not yet been asked, feel free to call the Ag Ed department at 969-7384 for Mr. Sharp or Mr. Tilley. Fruit forms are due on November 19th. Fruit should be delivered on December 9th, 10th and 11th.

Job Interview Contest

The district job interview contest will be be held on Wednesday, November 12th. The members are expected to present a resume, go through a mock interview and write a follow-up letter after the interview. Those competing try their best to properly sell themselves to the interviewer. There are three different categories that the student can participate in: Ag Production, Ag Science, and Ag Business. This contest is a great way to get a good idea of what a real job interview is like. The top competitor in the district in each category proceeds to the state contest in March.

Parliamentary Procedure

The Parliamentary Procedure contest is composed of nine to twelve people who must properly run a business meeting of the FFA. Members must know and be able to demonstrate over a 15 different parliamentary abilities and know over 130 facts of parliamentary procedure. This is a very competitive contest in our district. We have placed very respectably in past contests and hope to do so again this year. Good Luck! Practices will start soon. Those members participating in this contest this year are: Jenny Zaayer, Ben Ball, Cortney Collins, Debbie Picklesimer, Michael Hedrick, Margo McMaster, Trent Strous, Alicia Owen, Cerene Kilbarger, Erika Hardman and Cassi Slone.

End of Grading Period

The end of the first nine weeks grading period is approaching quickly and before you know it its going to be 2004 already. The grading period ends on November 14th. Grade cards will be sent home soon after the grading period ends.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent- teacher conferences will be held on two days again this year. Those days will be November 20th and the 26th. We encourage all parents to come to the conferences to meet Mr. Tilley and Mr. Sharp and also to see our new Ag Department. Call the school at 969-7251 to schedule a time for your conference.

Don't forget the Hog Roast on November 19th at 7:00 p.m.!

National Convention

The National FFA Convention was held in Louisville, Kentucky. Our group left on Wednesday, October 29th and returned on Sunday, November 2nd. Those attending were: Crish Alvey, Adam Baldwin, Ben Ball, Rachel Ball, Brian Bussert, Christine Bussert, Amanda Cassidy, Heather Cramer, Erika Hardman, Nikki Herron, Heather Hines, Travis Kiser, Lindsay Lama, Brittany Manson, Alicia Owen, Chelsea Polt, Ashley Rodgers and Amie White. Those chaperones attending were: Mr. Tilley, Miss Grove, and Eric Valentine, an A-C FFA Alumni member. This event is the largest youth convention in the world.

For only the second time, the chapter was recognized on stage for being a 2-star chapter. Amanda Cassidy, President and Erika Hardman, Treasurer, represented the chapter on stage to receive this award. Less than 500 chapters nationwide were considered for a one, two or three star rating. Heather Makarius, the 2000-2001 chapter president and a 2001 state officer, received her American FFA Degree. She is only the third female from our chapter to do so. The American FFA Degree is the highest Degree an FFA member can receive. This is a huge honor and also takes a lot of hard work to achieve. Congratulations Heather!! Along with the chapter recognition, members heard from motivational speakers, attended the Career Show and met members from around the country. Those attending also watched the new national officer team who was elected on Saturday. Of the six officers elected, one of them was again from Ohio. Ohio has had more national FFA officers than any other state since the FFA was started in 1928.

In addition to convention activities, our chapter attended many fun and exciting things this year. On Wednesday, they stopped by Jungle Jims International Market in Cincinnati. Here they toured and sampled food from all over the world. This store carries anything from rattlesnake to rare fruits an vegetables. Friday they attended the Kentucky Bison Company along the Ohio River. The bison farm was everyone's favorite stop of the whole trip. At the farm they had over 300 head of buffalo. Our chapter sampled buffalo jerky as well as a few other buffalo products. The next stop on the list was Glassworks in downtown Louisville. At Glassworks, many artists perform different types of art with glass. Those who attended the trip watched the glassmaker demonstrate different techniques such as hot glasswork and cold glasswork. Members also toured Schimpff's Confectionery, a 100+ year-old candy factory, attended the Buckeye Bash, an Ohio-only FFA activity with more than 1,000 in attendance and numerous other activities. It was educational yet fun trip for everyone!
Food Drive

The Amanda Clearcreek FFA Chapter is once again helping the Amanda Fire Department and the Chelsea Hedrick Christmas for Kids Foundation with their annual food drive. The FFA will be dropping off and picking up the bags in Amanda as well as Stoutsville. The drop off day will be Friday, November 21st and picking them up on Monday, November 24th. We will accept any non perishable food item. If you live outside of city limits in Stoutsville or Amanda and still wish to donate food items, you can send them with any FFA member, contact the school, or drop them off on Monday evening. Thanks for your continuous support with this important event. We will need many members to help make this activity successful again this year. Sign-up sheets will be coming around in class soon.
Ag Communications

The Ag Communications contest has been a very successful Career Development Event for the Amanda-Clearcreek FFA Chapter the last few years. The last four times this contest was held we have been in the top ten in the state each time and we have won the contest twice. This contest is done by a team of four FFA members from our school. This particular contest has many parts to it that the team must complete. First they have to complete a twelve page project proposal with the supporting media materials and submit it prior to the contest. On the day of the contest, each member must take a written test on journalism items and complete an editing exercise using the AP style proofs marks. Also, all four team members take part in a mock press conference then use that information to complete each of there own practicum areas. The practicum areas are: graphic design, press release, news writing and radio broadcasting. Each member has an hour to complete their chosen practicum area. Following this the team will give a fifteen minute Microsoft PowerPoint presentation over the topic that they chose prior to the contest.

After asking Mr. Sharp about this contest he said "This is one of the hardest and most involved CDE's that our chapter participates in." Good luck to Adam Baldwin, Amanda Cassidy, Cortney Collins and Lindsey Carpenter in this contest and let's bring home another banner!

Centerburg Trap Shoot

Travis Kiser, Stacey Sams and Seth Curtis recently represented the chapter in Centerburg FFA's annual trap shoot. This is the first time the chapter has sent representatives to this activity. Even though they did not have the fourth member to make a team, they still did well with Seth hitting 17 out of 25 targets, one of the best performances of the day. Hopefully, we will have more members interested next year so we can have a full team.
