Chapter Awards Banquet

The chapter's annual awards banquet was a great success. If you were unable to attend you missed out on a great time. It was a carry-in type meal followed by the awards ceremony. Many members were recognized for their achievements throughout the past year. Some of those members were:

DeKalb Leadership Award: Beth Fouse- this award is given to a four year senior who has excelled in their given SAE area, plus, leadership, FFA scholarship, and has participated in other school activities.

Made for Excellence Award: Crish Alvey, Margo McMaster, Lindsey Carpenter, Amanda Cassidy, Ryan Sturgeon, Sandy Larson, Cassi Slone, and Heather Hines. This award is given to a freshman or sophomore who shows good leadership skills. They will attend a weekend leadership conference next school year.

Memorial Award: Erika Hardman and Debbie Picklesimer- This award is given to a freshman, sophomore, or junior who attends an interview and is interested in attending a week long leadership conference held in Washington D.C. in the summer. This award is given in memory of two former members of the Amanda Clearcreek FFA chapter, Becky Strickler and Rusty Bowers.

These were just a few of the many awards given at the banquet by the chapter.

Nick Griener, a past chapter president, represented the Amanda Clearcreek FFA Alumni. This is the first year they decided to give out a $250.00 scholarship to a deserving senior who has showed great leadership and chosen to pursue further education beyond H.S. The two seniors who applied were two very well known members of the chapter, Jace Spires and Rachel Makarius. Nick commented that this was a hard decision to make. So I am pleased to announce that the Alumni chose both Jace and Rachel for a scholarship. This was surprising to everyone. A big thank you A-C FFA Alumni; your support is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to everyone who was recognized and a thank you to Mr. Tilley and Mr. Sharp; the banquet and the slide show were great.
Summer Hours

Every FFA member is required to participate in at least eight hours of scheduled summer activities with the FFA during the summer. There are a few different ways you can do so. The easiest way is to go to FFA camp. A few other ways that you can mix and match to receive your hours are: Adopt-A-Highway, Summer Ag Breakfast, Hosting the Ohio FFA Center, Tarlton Fire Dept. Fish Fry, or simply just helping move into the new school. Mr. Tilley and Mr. Sharp are still debating a few other options as well as the hours you will receive for each one.

Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup

The August Adopt-a-Highway will be held on August 7th @ 11:00 a.m. This is a great opportunity to get a large amount of your summer hours all in one day. You can attend the ag breakfast that morning and immediately following that you can come back to Amanda and help clean up our two and a half mile stretch of State Route 159. This activity is worth three summer hours.
Ohio Cattleman's Association Food Booth

The Ohio Cattleman's Association is in need of people to work their food booth at the Ohio State Fair. They have asked our FFA chapter to work the booth on August 2nd. We will be working in two shifts, with one group working and the other group visiting the fair and then later switching. One meal will be provided by the Ohio Cattleman's. You need to be at the school by 9:00 a.m. casual, school appropriate clothes and we will be back by 9:00 p.m. You will receive seven summer hours. If you would like to attend please contact Mr. Sharp or Mr. Tilley a.s.a.p. We can take approximately 22 members to this function.

District 7 Officer Training

The annual district officer training was held on May 13th at the Lancaster High School.

Those officers and their assistants attending were: Amanda Cassidy, Jenny Zaayer, Holly Edwards, Margo McMaster, Chelsea Polt, Debbie Picklesimer and Brian Bussert. At this session, they split up the officer team by the officer position that they represent. The Ohio State University Agricultural Education Society was sent down to teach the officers good methods to follow to be the best officer you can be. They did an excellent job.
Yearly Officer Retreat

The current officer team for the 2003-2004 school year will be going on a retreat this summer to plan next year's activities. They will be leaving on Thursday, June 12th and returning Saturday, June 14th. This year we will be going to West Virginia to go camping, hiking, rafting, swimming, enjoying the high ropes, as well as plan next year activities in which they will be serving as chapter officers.
Summer Ag Breakfast Schedule

Throughout the summer we hold three Ag breakfasts that count towards your summer hours. Instead of starting at 7:00 a.m., the July and August gatherings will start at 9:00 a.m. The July Ag Breakfast will be held on Thursday, July 10th @ Frisches. The August Ag Breakfast will be held on Thursday August 7th @ Tee Jayes. The September Ag Breakfast will be at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 4th at Bob Evans. We hope to see a large turn out at these breakfasts.
Graduating Seniors of the FFA

There are many memorable thoughts we have to remember this years seniors by. Whether it is a summer FFA camp or state or national convention, we still cherish those memories. As we all look back on our own experiences in the FFA there are a few graduating members of the chapter that we will always remember Those FFA members who are graduating on June 8th are: Beth Fouse, Jace Spires, Rachel Makarius, Erin Gilfillen, Samantha Wiggins, Lindsey Turner, Amie White, Devon Timmons, Katie Bowman, Randall Miller, Jayson Marshall, Joe Davis, Tara Hite, Cassie Shaeffer, Kristin Graves, Tabby Strauz, Eric Simpson, Andrea Loudermilk, Stacy Manson, Shauna Cornell, Rock Edgington, Deanna Pontius, Lindsay Simon, Ashley Stone, and Ashley Fausnaugh. We will miss you!!!
Ohio Forestry Camp

The Ohio Forestry Camp is a great opportunity if you are interested in doing a forestry project or contest. It is a six day camp that will be offered June 15th through the 20th. At the camp, they will teach you many useful skills that will help you out tremendously next year if you plan on doing the forestry contest. Those attending are Megan Miller and Crish Alvey. These two ladies are being sponsored by the Fairfield SWCD.
Canoe Trip

The annual FFA canoe trip will be held on August 16th. We will meet at the school at 9:00 a.m. at the high school, then we will take a school bus to the Hocking River. If you like to go canoeing or just want to have a lot of fun getting three of your summer hours, be sure to put your name on the sign-up sheet today.
Hosting at the Ohio FFA Center

Another opportunity you have to receive your summer hours is hosting at the Ohio FFA Center during the state fair. The chapter will typically take nine members to represent the chapter as well as FFA chapters statewide to meet and greet people at the state fair. We will be hosting on August 13th. You need to wear your official dress and will receive four summer hours. If you show good leadership skills and like to meet new people, then this is a good opportunity for you. Contact Mr. Sharp a.s.a.p.
Fish Fry

Last year, we began helping at the Tarlton Fire Department annual fish fry. What we do is we ask about ten people to come down to Tarlton to the town hall and we will waite tables. It is fun as well as a good way for our FFA chapter to become better known as well as get a little money to put in our account. It will be held on June 26th and you need to be there about 2:30 p.m. If you are interested in helping, you need to contact Holly Edwards a.s.a.p. This will go towards helping you complete your summer hours. Due to other commitments, Mr. Sharp and Mr. Tilley are unable to attend so you will have to supply your own transportation.
School Work Days

Sometime in late August, the Ag Dept. will be moving into the new school. For those students who signed up to help, you will be contacted when we know the exact dates.
