May Meeting

The May FFA meeting willbe held on May 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Ag Center. This will be thelast meeting before the banquet, which will be held on Saturday May15th. The Ag challenge for this meeting is wheel borrow race. In thisevent, a male and a female from each of the classes: freshman,sophomores, juniors, and seniors compete against eachother.
State CDEContests

Dairy Cattle- Aneducational activity designed as a practical method of teachingstudents to select quality dairy cattle. Students were challengedwith pedigree evaluation, sire selection, linear evaluation, awritten test, placing classes and written class reasons.

The Dairy Cattle teamconsisting of MartinaStanley, Crish Alvey, and Heather Hines placed 47th.

The placing forindividuals is as follows: Martina Stanley-116th, Crish Alvey -267th, Heather Hines-138th
Equine Management- Each member takes a written test, completes a tackan equipment identification test, judges 4 classes of horses andjudges a class of hay.

Forestry FieldDay

The Amanda Clearcreek FFAattended Hocking College's Forestry Field Day on April 23rd at LakeSnowden Education and Recreation Center. Activities began at 9:00 andended at 1:30. The activities for the day were: Tree Identification,Tree measurements, Saw Safety and Tree Felling, Tree care andclimbing, logging Equipment Demonstrations, and Prescribed Burning /Wildland Fire. "We got to drive some of the machinery and climb atree with a harness and rope, those were really fun. We also learnedabout fire and we used a soap hose."~Crish Alvey

Tree Identification- Anintroduction to the key elements of identifying hardwoods ofsoutheastern Ohio.

Tree measurements- Learnto measure standing timber using a Biltmore Stick and how tocalculate board footage.

Saw Safety and TreeFelling-a demonstration of the proper steps for safe directionalfalling.

Tree care andclimbing-Demonstrations on proper trimming and climbingtechniques.

Logging EquipmentDemonstrations-Hocking College instructors and Ohio ForestryAssociation loggers demonstrated the operation of loggingequipment,

Prescribed Burning /Wildland Fire-An introduction to the control and use of fire innature resource management

Amanda-Clearcreek AnnualFFA Banquet

This year's annual awardsbanquet will be held on May 15th at 4:00 P.M. in the cafetorium. Thedinner portion of the banquet is potluck style. Like last year, weare asking that families of freshmen and sophomore members bring adinner item and that the families of junior and senior members bringa dessert item. We encourage all members to bring their parents andfamily members to the banquet to share in the accomplishments thatyou have made, as well as the accomplishments of your friends and ofthe chapter throughout the past year. Official dress is required forthose members who have their jackets. If you don't have a jacket,dress as close to official dress as possible. Official dressincludes: your FFA Jacket, black or blue tie for boys/scarf forgirls, black slacks (slacks or knee length or longer skirts forgirls), white collared shirt, and black dress shoes.
FFA Convention

FFA members attended theState FFA Convention on April 30th. Their where over 4,000 FFAmembers from the state of Ohio in attendance at the convention. Themembers do such things as play games enjoy the talent showparticipate in contests; go to sessions as well as leadershipactivities. We also had 2 graduate members Beth Fouse and JaceSpires went up forrecognition on their outstanding achievements.
Mulch Sale

This year's annual MulchSale is over. Chapter members sold over 7100 bags of mulch alltogether. This year's top seller was Brad Bowers, selling 717 bags.June Spires did a great job coming in second with 618bages of mulch. If you haven't picked up your mulch yet, you need tosee Mr. Tilley if you need it picked up by the forklift or, Mr. Sharpfor individual bags as soon as possible to arrange for that to betaken out of the Ag Center. Also, if you need extra mulch, see Mr.Tilley soon to get that ordered.
