FFA Meeting

                The next FFA meeting was held on Monday, September 19th at 7:00 P.M. up in the Ag Center by the K-2 building. The Ag Challenge was the egg toss. One male and one female from each class were needed to toss an egg for distance. A class must have had a representative of both genders or they would be judged as not participating. Your attendance at meetings is important. Attending meetings are apart of your grade. If you do not come to a meeting, you must have a note from your parent so you will be excused.

Ag Breakfast

                Ag breakfast was held on Thursday, September 1st at Tee Jaye’s at 6:45 A.M. This is a great way to meet with your friends, socialize, and eat great food! The next Ag Breakfast will be on Thursday, October 6th.

Cross Mound Park Clean-Up

                On June 16th, seven FFA members went to the Cross Mound Park in Tarlton. They were able to put in a new fence at the entrance of the park and re-stain the shelter house. Afterwards they were treated to a cook-out. This is one of the many community activities that our chapter does to help improve the community and show members how important it is to keep our community looking good. Members in attendance were: Jessica Caisse, Andrew Gobel, Taylor Griebel, Erika Hardman, Ashley Lamb, T.J. Miller, and Stacey Sams.

Ohio Leadership Camp

                This year from June 24th to the 27th, Adam Baldwin and Ashley Lamb attended Ohio Leadership Camp where they attended various leadership workshops. Ohio Leadership Camp is designed to teach members leadership skills that they can take back and use in their own FFA chapter. I asked Adam what his favorite thing about OLC was, “I really liked the speaker, Trent McKnight. He was an awesome speaker.” Leadership camp is very different than regular FFA camp. You attend a lot more leadership based workshops which last about 2-3 hours each. There are also no camptivities as there are at the regular sessions of FFA Camp.  

FFA Camp

             FFA Camp was held July 11th-15th.    This year our chapter had 18 members attend FFA Camp. They were: Lars Abel, Adam Baldwin, Greg Bowers, Christine Bussert, Jessica Caisse, Jordan Collins, Crystal Covell, Billy Davis, Bobbi Edwards, Judd Ellinger, Adam Foster, Jeremy Gozy, Alisha Kougher, Ashley Lamb, Lacey Price, Samantha Reid, Stacey Sams, and Nic White. FFA Camp is all about meeting new people from different FFA chapters in Ohio. You also get the opportunity to meet the Ohio FFA State Officers. All members attend different workshops. There are also sports tournaments, games, the water front, and two dances. I asked Jessica Caisse what she liked about FFA Camp, “ I liked meeting all of the people from different parts of Ohio. I also liked being involved in all of the activities. My favorite part was when they  had the trash fashion show. I liked all of the neat outfits that the campers made.”

Washington Leadership Conference

            The Washington Leadership Conference is a week long leadership conference that  is held in Washington D.C. every year. This leadership conference  allows our members to meet and get to know FFA members from around the United States. WLC is designed to teach leadership skills that can be used not only among FFA chapters, but also among the community.    This year our chapter had 3 members attend the Washington Leadership Conference. They were: Crystal Covell, Bobbi Edwards, and Ashley Lamb. They were able to attend various leadership workshops and activities. There were also two days for sight seeing around Washington D.C. They were able to see the Smithsonian buildings, the Washington Monument, the White House, and the Jefferson Memorial  just to name a few. I asked Crystal Covell what she liked the most about WLC. “The best thing was meeting people from different states, and learning about how their lives are different from ours in Ohio. It was one of the best times of my life!”

Ohio FFA Center Hosting

                On August 3rd members from our chapter went to the Ohio State Fair to host at the Ohio FFA Center. Members welcomed guests and enjoyed some time of their own at the fair.  The Ohio FFA Center is a building dedicated strictly to FFA. It contains an excellent display of what FFA is all about. Members who attended were: Jessie Berisford, Christine Boso, Erika Hardman, Ashley Lamb, Alex Ogan, J.R. Rogers, Stacey Sams, and Laurie Segovia.

Movie Night

                On Monday, August 22nd our chapter held a movie night at the school where they watched City of Angels . The members were provided with pop and chips. Members who attended were: Christine Boso, Andrea Brumfield, Christine Bussert, Madison Fausnaugh, Erika Hardman, Kyle Kennedy, Stacey Sams, Ross Sturgeon, and Nic White.

District Soils CDEs

                The District Soils CDEs will be held on held on Tuesday, September 27th in Licking County. This years rural soil team consists of Bobbi Edwards, Kyle Kennedy, Greg Bowers,  Cody Thomson,  Max Noll, and Jessie Berisford. This years urban soils team consists of Erika Hardman, T.J. Miller, Andrew Gobel, and Jessie Berisford .

Farm Science Review

                The Farm Science Review was held on Tuesday, September 20th. The Farm Science Review is a great way to take a day off of school and explore a farming environment. This is the 43rd Farm Science Review, the 23rd at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center. Some facts about the Farm Science Review:

*    Hundreds of demonstration plots and several million dollars worth of machinery.

*    Sixteenth-year for inductions into the Farm Science Review Hall of Fame.

*    Ohio Farmer Conservation Awards; Thursday at 11:30.

*    OSU Central, featuring demonstrations and displays from OSU colleges and departments.

*    Lots of farm safety, home safety and health information.

*    Global Positioning Systems (GPS) hands-on demonstrations in the demonstration fields.

*    Ohio State Horse Plowing Contest conducted by the Ohio Horse & Mule Group-Thursday, Sept. 22

*    Expanded programs on conservation practices in the Gwynne Conservation Area.

*    An arts and crafts exhibit tent.

*    Permanent washroom facilities with diaper changing stations.

Forestry CDE

        An invitational forestry contest will be held Thursday, September 22nd at Knox Woods at 3:00 P.M. This years team consists of: Stacey Sams, Bobbi Edwards, April Seneften, Erika Hardman, T.J. Miller, Alex Ogan, Josh Ayers, and Greg Bowers.

Ohio Cattleman’s Booth

                On Tuesday, August 9th, our chapter took 14 members up to the Ohio State Fair to work at the Ohio Cattleman’s Booth.  Members helped serve food and drinks. Members that attended were: Emiley Bolin, Christine Boso, Christine Bussert, Courtney Cox, Heather Cox, Erika Hardman, Kelsey Johnston, Cerene Kilbarger, Alisha Kougher, Brent Poston, Alex Reid, Zac Saum, Dani Sowers, and Daniel Wampler.

Canoe Trip

                This years canoe trip was held on Saturday, July 30th at Hocking Hills Canoe Livery. Members spent a day of fun canoeing on the Hocking River. Members who attended were: Josh Ayers, Dustin Baxter, Jessie Berisford, Christine Boso, Greg Bowers, Tiffany Brown, Andrew Gobel, Erika Hardman, T.J. Hines, Kyle Kennedy, Matt Nestor, Debbie Picklesimer, Joe Smith, Cody Thomson, and Megan Underhill.

Industry Tour

                The industry tour was held on Friday, July 29th. Members went to Dickonson Cattle Farm. The were able to view various breeds of cattle. Members that attended were: Madison Fausnaugh, Jennifer Fletcher, T.J. Hines, Kyle Kennedy, Lindsey Lama, Kayla Notestone, Debbie Picklesimer, Chelsea Polt, J.R. Rogers, Jodi Roush, April Senften, Cody Thomson, and Nic White .

Lion’s Club Barbeque

                The Lion’s Club Barbeque was held on Saturday, September 10th. Members were asked to help serve food. The Lion’s Club  has been a big supporter of the FFA over the years. Thank you to the following members for helping out: Betsy Bowshier, Max Noll, Taylor Griebel, Laklyn Neal, and Shaelyn Iles

National Convention

                This years National FFA Convention will be held October 26th-29th in Louisville, Kentucky. Members will attend various sessions. This is a great way to meet people from FFA chapters around our country. As more than 50,000 FFA members and guests pack Freedom Hall, they will bring you exciting motivational speakers, special guests, and award presentations that will inspire you to make a difference in the lives of those who surround you back home. Take a stroll through the career show and find your path to an exciting and rewarding career. Don’t miss the leadership and career development workshops, all designed to give you the skills you need to excel in school, in FFA and in life! The 78th National FFA Convention is your time to discover what you can offer in helping reach the common goal of a better future for everyone.

Annual Hog Roast

                The Annual Hog Roast will be held on Wednesday, October 19th at 7:00 P.M. This is a great way to get together with your friends, family,  and community members. All members are encouraged to bring their family members . This is a great way to let your parents know what FFA is all about. This is a pot luck type dinner. You are must  bring enough food to feed the number of people you bring. Freshmen and sophomores bring food items, juniors and seniors bring dessert items.

A Note From Your Reporter

                I want to send out an apology for not having the September news out on time. Due to getting back to school and having so little time to work on the newsletter with so much to write the newsletter is arriving late. I’ll make sure that the October news is out on time!
