Upcoming Monthly Chapter Meeting

The next chapter meeting is Monday, March 19, 2007, at 7:00 P.M. in the Ag. Center.  Members please keep up the good attendance. The Ag. Challenge will be the volleyball tournament.  Come and enjoy the fun!

Officer Elections for 2007-2008

Ten members gave applications to be chapter officers but unfortunately only seven positions are available.  All applicants put in a great deal of time and effort including filling out the application and being interviewed by the Nominating Committee.  The committee had a tough time deciding their suggestions because the applicants were all capable and experienced enough to handle the offices.  After the Nominating Committee made their ballot, the members voted at the meeting, and decided our officer team.

Results: President- Jodi Roush , Vice-President- Jessie Berisford , Secretary- Alyssa Jenkins , Treasurer- Kayla Notestone , Reporter- Josh Cordle , Sentinel- Judd Ellinger , and Student Advisor- Kyle Kennedy .

Good luck to the 2007-2008 officer team; may you represent our chapter well. Thanks to all the members who showed up to the meeting and voted responsibly and seriously.  Let us not forget our officer team from 2006-2007 though; a special thanks goes out for all your hard-work and dedication to the FFA and our chapter.

National Farm Machinery Show Trip

As usual, the chapter sent the members who sold the most fruit to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday February 16 th thru Sunday February 18 th .  The members that chose to attend were:   Travis Hart , Jodi Roush , Kayla Notestone , Stacey Sams , Ryan Davis , Ashley Lamb , Bobbi Edwards , Jessie Berisford , Kyle Kennedy , Tiffany Hayman , Brittany Pinkstock , J.D. Stover , Lena Garrett , Aaron Wortman, and Brandon Bresler . Chaperones were: Mr. Joel Spires (11th consecutive year chaperoning), Mrs. Misty Pinkstock , Mrs. Terrell Edwards, Mrs. Jenna Sandoval (an A-C FFA Alumni member), Mr. Tilley , and Mr. Sharp . They had fun watching the tractor pulls,  touring the Louisville Slugger, visiting the Frasier Historical Arms museum and of course touring the Farm Machinery Show.

Ryan Davis stated, “The Farm Machinery Show trip was a great way to learn about the new innovations and inventions of today’s agricultural industry.  It was a really good time.”  “I really liked staying up playing cards on Saturday night,” said Ashley Lamb .

National FFA Week

Even with the crazy week of weather, National FFA week survived. Monday (President’s Day) we went to school to make up a day, so nothing was planned.  Tuesday was A-C FFA shirt day.  Wednesday was supposed to be the county volleyball tournament, but was cancelled due to facility issues.  Thursday was official dress/ FFA jacket day.  Friday was the Dodgeball tournament, truck/tractor day, and carhart day. The winners of the  dodgeball tournament were: Brock Rose, Zach Underhill, Chance McMaster, Jordan Forquer, Adian Willis, and Garren Dilley.   Thanks to all those who participated in this chapter event.  It is a lot of fun and is a great way to get people involved in the chapter.

A-C FFA Alumni Scholarships

Five people applied for the A-C FFA  Alumni Scholarships this year.  They were: Adam Baldwin, Crystal Covell, April Senften, Christine Boso, and Stacey Sams.  Interviews will be held on March 21st, 2007.  Applicants should contact Mr. Tilley for more information.

District Officer Book Evaluations

Our 2006-2007 Treasurer ( Kayla Notestone ),  Secretary ( Jodi Roush ), and Reporter ( Jessie Berisford ) all submitted their books to the district.  All of them received gold ratings. They spent many hours working diligently on these books.  Thanks for your outstanding effort in representing our chapter.  These members will be recognized at the State FFA Convention in Columbus on May 5th, 2007.

Here are some quotes from the officers on their books:    “We put a lot of work into our books.  It’s a lot of time and paperwork.” - Jodi Roush.   “I learned not to procrastinate, but I had a good time. I really appreciated all of the help from Judd and Kayla. It was a little hard to think of the ideas, but in the end it all turned out good!” - Jessie Berisford.

State FFA Degree Applications Submitted

State FFA Degree applicants for this year are: Judd Ellinger, Kyle Kennedy, Kayla Notestone , and Jodi Roush .  The State FFA Degree is the second highest degree that can be achieved as an FFA member. This step in the FFA Degree system encourages students to grow and achieve personally toward establishing themselves in an agricultural career.  No one from our chapter applied for an American FFA Degree this year.   The American FFA Degree is the highest degree that can be achieved as an FFA member. Attaining the American FFA Degree requires a solid commitment to agriculture and FFA.  We hope to hear if these four members will receive the State FFA Degree by the end of the month.

Ag. Challenge Update and Explanation

At the moment the Seniors and Freshman are tied for the lead each with 61 points.  The Sophomores are in third with 58.  The Juniors are in last with 52.  Ag. challenges are activities we do after meetings like milk chug, peanut butter face, and feed bag hold.  It is also based on degrees earned, meeting attendance, CDEs, GPAs, and other things that go on in the chapter.  With these activities, points are given to the winner and whoever wins at the end of the year gets steak and ice cream at the June meeting instead of what everyone else gets, hotdogs and chips.

Members of our chapter have submitted many proficiency awards this year.  This is a huge amount of work because you have to fill out about five to six pages with information about your SAE project, provide a maximum of six pictures with captions, and insert the costs, money earned, etc. correctly so they match your books.  The results of this year’s proficiency award applicants are as follows:
