3rd in the Nation!!!

During National FFA Convention, our State-winning 2006-2007 Agricultural Communications team competed in the National Ag. Comm. CDE.  They placed 3rd in the Nation!! The team consisted of Adam Baldwin, Stacey Sams, Jodi Roush, Brittany Pinkstock, and Jessie Berisford.  Jodi Roush placed 10th individually and Adam Baldwin placed 14th individually.  Both of them received Gold Ratings plus Jodi received a $250 dollar scholarship! Brittany Pinkstock placed 48th, Stacey Sams placed 54th, and Jessie Berisford placed 64th individually.  These three received Silver Ratings! This is an extremely difficult contest consisting of a broadcasting, news release writing, website building, graphic design, and news article writing.  Also, as a group, the team does a presentation that takes public speaking and memorization to the limit.  This is a huge accomplishment for our chapter and these members. Congratulations!!!

Upcoming Meeting!

The monthly meeting is on Monday, November 19th, at 7 P.M. in the Ag. Center.  The Ag. Challenge is corn shelling.

Hog Roast

On Wednesday, Nov. 7th, the Hog Roast will be in the cafetorium at 7 P.M. All the community is invited to this event.  New this year, we are having a silent auction with a few items in which all our proceeds will go to one of the groups we donate to throughout the year: March of Dimes, Children’s Hospital, and the Area 6 Special Olympics.  This is a potluck, so please bring food according to the number of people you bring, so that way everyone can eat their fill.  The FFA will provide rolls, drinks, and pork.  Everyone needs to bring their own table service (cups, plates, silverware, etc.).  The freshmen and sophomores need to bring a dinner item.  The juniors and seniors need to bring a dessert item.  This is a great way for our chapter and our community to come together; we hope to see you on the 7th.

State Forestry CDE

On October 6th, members of the forestry team participated in the State Forestry CDE at Hocking College.  The team placed 16th in state.  Josh Cordle placed 41st, David Sams placed 43rd, Josh Hampshire placed 109th, and Brittany Pinkstock placed 120th individually.  Congratulations to these members on their efforts.

Ag. Communication CDE

Members of the 2007-2008 Ag. Comm. team will be participating in a communications workshop.  Which will be, held at Amanda-Clearcreek on November 3rd at 9 A.M. This workshop will help prepare them for the district contest on Nov. 13th at 3 P.M. (Also at A-C) and the state contest to be held on Dec. 1st.  We are hosting this for the whole state of Ohio and it is being put-on by the Ohio State University.

National FFA Convention

Seventeen members attended this years National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, from October 24th thru October 27th.  They had an experience of a lifetime.  They heard keynote speakers like Henry Winkler,  attended the Buckeye Bash, and toured museums, colleges, and farms like the Lincoln College of Technology and the Corley Elk Farm. It was a very educational and enjoyable trip. We hope more members take advantage of this trip next year.

Fruit Sale

The fruit sale started Monday, October 15th, so all members are expected to sell fruit.  This is our main fundraiser that pays for almost everything and this is vital for all activities we do throughout the year!  All members are STRONGLY encouraged to participate.  Remember to inform all customers of the new pre-pay special.  It is cheaper to pre-pay for your fruit than pay on delivery. Orders need to be turned-in by Wednesday, November 14th.

Fairfield County Fair

Many of our members showed hogs, goats, and beef feeder calves at the fair this year.  The Ag. Business I class displayed their Tree  I.D. Scrapbooks, while Ag. Production II displayed their welding projects.  These projects were displayed at the Fairfield County Fair October 8th thru October 12th.  Here are the results of the members who took projects through the FFA:

State Officer Leadership Night

Members from various chapters from District 7 will be coming to Amanda-Clearcreek on November 14th for a leadership workshop.  The state officers will be in charge and food will be provided. Each year, our FFA Chapter hosts a State Officer Leadership Night. Only certain FFA Chapters are selected to host this activity and our chapter normally is one of them. State Officer Leadership Night is where members of our FFA Chapter and members of other FFA Chapters meet to get better leadership skills. Members are split into groups with one or two state officers. Members then participate in leadership activities and talk about what ideas they can take back to their chapter to become a better leader. Members are moved through a rotation so that they experience the different workshops that are prepared by each state officer in attendance. At the end, our chapter provides those in attendance with food and drink.

In the past few years, our chapter has also attended a State FFA Officer Leadership Night hosted by other FFA chapters in our local area later in the school year.

Holiday Food Drive

The Holiday Food Drive is a project between our FFA chapter and the Amanda Fire Department. Our members deliver paper bags to residents in Amanda and Stoutsville. The bags have a note on them that ask people to donate any non-perishable food items. A few days later, the FFA members take time to pick-up the bags. Later, FFA members deliver the non-perishable items to the Amanda Township Fire Department. The fire department then distributes the food to needy families in the community. On Thursday, Nov. 15th and Friday, Nov. 16th members will be dropping off the bags.  Monday, Nov. 19th members will pick-up the bags.  On Tuesday, Nov. 20th members will sort the food in the Ag. Center. We collected approximately 120 bags last year.

Parliamentary Procedure CDE

The Parliamentary Procedure CDE is an assessment of students’ abilities to participate effectively in a business meeting or other group decision making situation.  On Nov. 29th members who are participating in the parliamentary procedure CDE will be competing in the sub-district contest.  The team must place in the top two to advance to the district contest which is on Dec. 4th.  At districts, they must also place top two to move on to the state contest on Dec. 15th.  Members that are interested need to see Mr. Tilley.  We need at least 10 members for this team.

Chapter Trap Shoot

Sunday, October 14th, members enjoyed the chapter trap shoot at Barb and Lonnie Green’s house.  It was a lot of fun and we had a lot of participation.  Hot dogs, chips, and pop were provided.  22 members, 15 guests, and 5 A-C FFA Alumni members participated in this event.  A big thanks to Barb and Lonnie Green for hosting this event.
