October 2007 Newsletter

The monthly chapter meeting is Monday, October 15th at 7:00 P.M. in the Ag. Center. The Ag. Challenge is the straw bale toss.
Members please get in your flower bulb orders. All orders are prepaid, so turn in your money. The last day to turn in orders is Thursday, October 4th.
The fruit sale starts Monday, October 15th, so members start selling. This is our main fundraiser that pays for everything! This is vital for all activities we do all year. All members are STRONGLY encouraged to participate this year.
On Thursday October 4th, we will have our first Ag. Breakfast of the year. Remember to purchase your ticket before Thursday at the price of $7 or you won’t be able to attend. Come and enjoy some delicious food!
Friday, October 12th is our last football parking job. Please sign-up to help. It will last from 5:30 P.M. to about the end of the first quarter, or roughly 8 P.M. This is a good fundraiser for the chapter, so participation is needed. We appreciate the members who have helped with this new activity. We would also like to thank Mr. Herges, the new athletic director, for this opportunity.
On September 25th, members participated in the Urban and Rural District Soils CDE. This contest is preparation for the state contest. The Urban Soils CDE team placed 10th. Brittany Pinkstock placed 27th, D.J. Hopkins placed 39th, Jonathan Wampler placed 43rd, and Dillon Pinkstock placed 50th. The Rural Soils CDE team placed 14th. Cheyenne Jepsen placed 44th, Josh Hampshire placed 48th, Jacob White placed 59th, and Chris Sparkman placed 60th.
On September 27th, members participated in the Knox County Forestry Invitational. Those members were: David Sams, Josh Hampshire, and Ryan Mundy.
The Forestry team will be participating in the State Forestry CDE at Hocking College at 9 A.M. on Saturday, October 6th. The team consists of: David Sams, Ryan Mundy, Anthony Graham, Josh Hampshire, Brittany Pinkstock, and Josh Cordle.
Sunday, October 14th, members will enjoy the chapter trap shoot at Barb and Lonnie Green’s house. It is a lot of fun and we look forward to a lot of participation. This event starts at 1 P.M. and ends at 5 P.M. Permission forms and deposit money are due Wednesday, October 3rd. Hot dogs, chips, and pop will be provided.
Many of our members will be showing hogs, goats, and beef feeder calves. Ag. Business I will be displaying their Tree I.D. Scrapbooks. Ag. Science II will be displaying their wood projects. Ag. Production I will be displaying their electricity projects, and Ag. Production II will be displaying their welding projects. These projects will be displayed at the Fairfield County Fair October 8th thru October 12th. The Booth set-up is on October 5th and the take-down is on October 15th. Both will take place right after school. Members are encouraged to sign-up to help with these activities.
On October 16th at 3:00 P.M., members need to come help clean-up our strip along State Route 159. Bring old clothes and shoes, as you never can predict the weather conditions.
Members again, are attending this years National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 24th thru October 27th. They will have an experience of a lifetime. They are hearing key note speakers like Henry Winkler, attending the Buckeye Bash, and touring museums, colleges, and farms like the Lincoln College of Technology and the Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum. It will be a very educational and enjoyable trip. Also, our state-winning Agricultural Communications team will be competing in the National CDE. This is a huge accomplishment for our chapter and those members; Good luck!
On Wednesday, September 19th, members attended the Farm Science Review in London, Ohio, hosted by The Ohio State University. Members saw different machinery and innovations in farming.
