Upcoming Meeting!

The monthly chapter FFA meeting is at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, Jan. 28th, in the Ag Center.  The Ag. Challenge will be the feed bag hold.  At the meeting, the members receiving their Chapter FFA Degree will be recognized.  This is the highest degree that the chapter can bestow upon one of its members.  Members have to be a sophomore, have their Greenhand FFA Degree and meet other requirements including a ten minute speech.  Members must earn this degree to run for a chapter office or earn their State FFA Degree.

Ag. Communications
The team consisting of Teran Pinkstock, Tara McCalla, Alyssa Jenkins, Josh Cordle, and Ryan Davis won the State Ag. Communications CDE for the 4th time.  4 out of 5 team members got in the top ten of the state.  Teran, Josh, and Tara all got first in their practicums. Teran placed 2nd, Tara placed 3rd, Alyssa placed 6th, Josh placed 8th, and Ryan Davis placed 18th individually.   This contest consists of a team proposal and presentation, five different practicums, a communications test, and an editing quiz.  Teran did the broadcasting practicum, Tara did web page design, Ryan did the graphic design, Alyssa did the news release, and Josh did the press release.  Josh, Alyssa, and Teran got their information for their practicums from a 15  minute press conference and a ten minute question and answer session.  Tara and Ryan were given graphic and web items and they had to make a great design with them.  Congratulations to these members!
Here is what some of the team members had to say about the contest:
“I thought it was very challenging but I enjoyed the contest.” - Alyssa Jenkins

“It was a new contest for me and was pretty difficult.  We did good, and hopefully we work hard to do something great in the National CDE in October.” - Josh Cordle

District 7 Ag Sales & Job Interview CDEs

Ag Sales: The marketing of agricultural products is key to profitability in today’s competitive economy, and agricultural sales play a major role in the marketing process. Through this CDE, students will save the opportunity to demonstrate skills in sales by participating in a wide range of activities oriented around the total sales process. The Ohio Job Interview CDE is designed for FFA members to practice and demonstrate the  skills needed in seeking employment in all areas of agriculture. Each part of this event simulates  real world experiences that students will have when seeking employment in the future.    These contests will be held at Lancaster High School at 3:00 P.M on Tuesday, Jan. 22nd.  If any member is interested in either of these contests see Mr. Tilley or Mr. Sharp ASAP.

Small Engines & Tractor Troubleshooting CDEs

The 4-H Club meeting for these contests will be in the Ag Center at 7:00 P.M on Tuesday, Jan. 22nd. You have to attend these meetings to participate in these contests.  Both of these contests help members learn how to find a problem, fix it, and all the tools associated with small engines and/or tractors.  This is very beneficial to members that live or work on a farm.  If you are interested please see Mr. Tilley or Mr. Sharp ASAP.

Shooting Sports
If you enjoyed the chapter Trap Shoot in the fall, then you might enjoy this club. Fairfield County has a 4-H Shooting Sports club.  The club allows members the opportunity to learn different shooting sports disciplines (i.e. archery, rifle, shotgun, pistol, etc.)  through supervised instruction on local ranges.  Please pass this news along to anyone you feel might be interested and have them contact Dawn Miller at 740-654-1956 for more information.
