The Last FFA Meeting

On October 17th, 2011, the Amanda-Clearcreek FFA chapter had their monthly FFA meeting. The meeting started at 7:00 P.M. in the Ag Center Building. The Ag challenge was pizza eating contest and the Sophomores won! The pizza was made by our own Tommy Wayne’s Pizza Shop. The pizza had every topping you can think of! Congrats to the Sophomores.

Ag Breakfast

Friday, November 4th, 2011 at 6:15 A.M. was our monthly Ag breakfast. Ag breakfast was at Tee Jaye’s. Members mark this on your calendars shapeimage_2.pngas it is always the first Friday of the month! The officers would like to see more FFA members attend! It is a great time of fellowship and eat good breakfast.

Hog Roast

Wednesday, November 9th at 7:00 P.M. is the annual Hog Roast. The Hog Roast will be located in the cafetorium of the high school. All community and FFA members are welcome to come! It is a great time of cooked hog and good, home-cooked side dishes. The chapter will provide the pork, rolls, and drinks. Those in attendance are asked to bring their own table service for this event. Since this is a potluck activity, freshmen, sophomore and junior member families are asked to bring a dinner item and senior families are asked to bring a dessert item. Other community supporters may bring either a dinner item or a dessert. The chapter will  show last year’s slideshow of events the chapter participated in. Members do not forget! You do not want to miss out!

State Leadership Night

State Leadership Night is being held at the Amanda-Clearcreek High School on Wednesday, November 16th, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. Our State Officers will be leading different leadership sessions for all of the FFA members in District 7. It is a great time to learn new skills, meet other FFA members and State Officers, and unite with our own FFA members. Members mark your calendars! Lets show the other FFA chapters who place it is! This is a great night and you do not want to miss out!

National FFA Convention

The 84th National FFA Convention was held October 19th through October 22nd in Indianapolis, Indiana. Members of our FFA chapter were able to attend. Our chapter also got to go to the session where the new National FFA officers were elected and tour different attractions in Indiana. They went to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Cincinnati Zoo, and were able to tour many other places as well. Our own Ag Issues Forum team competed, and not only did they represent our chapter, but also the state of Ohio by competing in the National Ag Issues Forum CDE. The team consisted of: Hannah Chenetski, Kelsie Sharp, Sierra Jepsen, and Caitlin Robinson.  The team received a bronze rating. This is first time any team from Ohio has competed in this contest at the National level.

Congratulations to David Sams, Tyler VanHorn and Brittany Stevens for receiving their American FFA Degrees! This is a huge accomplishment in the FFA and the highest degree a member can earn! It takes a lot of dedication for a member who has graduated high school to continue to excel in the FFA and earn this degree.

Overall, it was a successful convention trip with many freshmen members in attendance. Next year will be the last year for the convention to be in Indianapolis, so we hope to have another good trip next year.

 Holiday Food Drive

Every year, our FFA chapter does the Holiday Food Drive. This is where FFA members take grocery bags around Amanda and Stoutsville for people to fill food items in. They put the bags outside of their house and within the next week, FFA members pick them up. We will need lots of members to help with this community project, so please mark you calendars now! The chapter then takes the food the the Amanda Fire House where it is distributed to people in our local community who financially need some help.

If are interested in filling a bag and did not receive one at your house, call Mr. Tilley at (740) 969-7381 and leave a message.

Upcoming Contests

Agricultural Communications

The Agricultural Communications CDE for our district is quickly approaching. The District contest is Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 at the Amanda-Clearcreek High School. This year, the Ag Comm CDE has changed. Instead of having 5 team members, there are now only 3. The practicums are a news release, creation/design of a flier, and social media. The team also has to do a 15 minute presentation of an Ag related topic. The team members for this year are: Alex Norris, Nick Brumfield, and Sierra Jepsen. Good luck at the District contest!!!

Agricultural Issues Forum

The State Ag Issues Forum CDE is also coming up. The State contest is Saturday, November 12th at Wilmington College. This is only the 2nd year Ohio has had this contest. The team this year is giving a forum over Food Safety. The team members are: Emily Cordle, Allyson Davis, Katerina Sharp, John Miller, and Madison Darnell. Good luck at State!!! The members from last year’s team are unable to participate on this year’s team due to the rule that once your team wins a state contest, you cannot participate in this contest again. So, Mr. Sharp has been busy training a new team and he has high hopes for this on the 12th.
