Next FFA Meeting

The next FFA meeting will be held on Monday, November 18th at 7:00 P.M. in the Ag. Center. The Ag. Challenge for this meeting will be Peanut Butter Face. One boy and one girl from each class will be needed for this challenge.

Upcoming Events

Ag Breakfast: The monthly Ag. Breakfast will be held on Thursday, November 7th at 6:15 A.M. at IHOP. As always this is a fun, social event and all members are encouraged to attend!

National FFA Convention: The National FFA Convention this year was moved and will be taking place in Louisville, Kentucky. The convention will be on a three-year rotation with Indianapolis, Indiana. Members from our chapter who are attending this yearŐs convention have already met with Mr. Tilley several times. Members will be leaving the school on Wednesday, October 30th and will be returning back to the school on Saturday, November 2nd. A few of the highlights for this trip include: a tour of Louisville Stoneware, Culbertson Home State Historic Park, and HuberŐs Orchard, Winery & Vineyards.

Annual Hog Roast: This yearŐs annual Hog Roast will take place on Wednesday, November 13th at 7:00 P.M. in the high school cafeteria. This event is a potluck, so all FFA members in attendance are required to bring a food item depending on each grade level. Freshman, sophomore and junior members are asked to bring a dinner item and senior members are asked to bring a dessert item. Community members and A-C FFA Alumni members are also invited to attend, and are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert of their choice. Our FFA Chapter provides the roast hog, dinner rolls and drinks. The Hog Roast is an enjoyable social event with amazing food for the chapter members, their families and community supporters. We hope to see you on the 7th!

Fall Fruit Sale: This yearŐs fall fruit sale started on Thursday, October 17th and will be ending on Thursday, November 14th. Grape orders are due on November 7th. All orders must be payed for in advance and should be turned in daily. This is by far the chapter's biggest fundraiser and funds go to help pay for chapter award pins, the hog roast, contest registrations, the banquet, etc. All members are encouraged to participate and continue selling boxes and/or baskets of fruit. In addition to fruit, the chapter has decided to create and sell a Ňcarnivore packÓ along with the sale this year. This includes one 12 pack of beef sticks, 2 backs of country jerky, 2 packs of spicy jerky, and a battle of YummerŐs BBQ Sauce. Any members who sell 25 or more boxes or baskets of fruit will be eligible to attend the Top Fall FundraiserŐs Trip this February. Mr. Tilley and Mr. Sharp will give members more information about these events in class. If you would like to buy fruit, ask any FFA member or call 969-7381 and leave a message to be called. An FFA member will contact you.

State FFA Officer Leadership Night: The State FFA Officer Leadership Night this year will be held at Amanda-Clearcreek on Wednesday, November 20th at 6:00 P.M. in our schoolŐs cafeteria. Our chapter has held a State FFA Officer Leadership Night for many years and this year, we are the only host school in our district and in central Ohio. Last year, there were nearly 300 FFA members in attendance. All members are encouraged to attend, as this is an excellent activity for members to meet our StateŐs FFA OfficerŐs, learn good leadership skills, and spend time with FFA members from other chapterŐs from around the state.

Holiday Food Drive: On Monday, November 18th, our chapter will again be dropping off food bags at every house in Stoutsville and Amanda to collect nonperishable food items for families in need this winter. On Tuesday, November 26th, the chapter will be returning to Stoutsville and Amanda to collect the food bags that were donated. All of the bags will then be brought back to Amanda to the Ag. Center, where members will be sorting out all the food and then packing it into boxes, which are taken to the Amanda Fire Department to be given out to families in the community. Our Chapter has been working with the Chelsea HedrickŐs Food Drive for many years and has collected thousands of pounds of can food for local families. Members who donŐt live in the two villages will also be getting bags to take home to their families and neighbors.

Contests

State Ag. Issues Forum CDE: Members of this years Ag. Issues consist of: Katerina Sharp, Katie Krile, Devon Mullen, Susan Householder, and Kaylee Reed. The topic that the team has chosen to present this year is over hydraulic fracturing, which is a very controversial topic at this time in Ohio and many of the surrounding states. The team has created a mini performance, and is in the process of presenting it to different community groups. The state contest will take place at Wilmington College on Saturday, November 9th. This contest requires a lot of time and effort, as team members have to write their script, make their power point, and memorize all of their speaking parts. Good luck to the Ag. Issues team!

Ag. Communications CDE: The Agricultural Communications Contest requires student knowledge and understanding of the various forms of communication within the industry of agriculture. Each chapter can take a team consisting of three members that must submit a 12 page written media plan. Each member of the team must then complete a journalism quiz and complete an editing exercise, using all proper AP style marks and laws. Each member of the team is then assigned to complete an individual practicum, such as: a news release, an online graphic design page, and a social media campaign. Following this, the team will present a project proposal. This yearŐs team consists of: Josie Montoney, Kaylee Reed, and Kayla Luft. The Ag Communications team will be competing Monday, November 25th at the District 7 contest and then again on Saturday, September 7th at the state contest. There is a lot of hard work and dedication required for this contest. Good luck to this yearŐs team!

Parliamentary Procedure Contest: This year our Parliamentary Procedure team will be competing at the sub-districts on Tuesday, December 3rd at Bloom Carroll High School. The Parliamentary Procedure CDE tests student knowledge and understanding of parliamentary procedure law as it can be used in a business meeting. The contest consists of a team presentation that can last up to fifteen minutes and a question and answer period at the end. This yearŐs team consists of: Adrian Wymer, Austin Stai, Dylan Mullen, Josh Metzon, Rachel Stoneburner, Devon Mullen, Katie Krile, and Dylan Wamsley.

Past Happenings

October Meeting: The October FFA meeting was held on Monday, October 21st at 7:00 P.M. in the Ag. Center. There were 121 members in attendance at this meeting. The Ag. Challenge for the meeting was the pizza-eating contest, in which the freshman placed 1st and were followed closely by the juniors in 2nd. The senior and sophomore classes finished up the night in 3rd and 4th place.

Fall Flower Bulb Sale: The Fall Flower Bulb sale each year is designed to help members raise money for themselves to use on chapter trips. The top fall flower bulb seller this year was Josh Metzon, who sold a total of 54 flower bulbs. Ashley Eveland had the second highest amount of flower bulbs sold with a total of 37. Congratulations to Josh and Ashley!

State Forestry CDE: On Saturday, October 5th, the State Forestry CDE Team competed in the state contest at Hocking College. The team had to complete multiple exams and two practicums, and were tested over their knowledge of leaf ID, forestry tools, timber cruising, tree and forest problems, and map reading. The team also had to complete an online test as part of the contest the previous Thursday. As with many of the CDEs that the chapter participates in, this is a very challenging contest and requires a lot of practice. The team, consisting of: Dylan Mullen, Adrian Wymer, Josh Metzon, Katerina Sharp, Austin Stai, Kaylee Reed, and Ashley Pritchard, placed 6th in the state of Ohio, which ties our chapter record in this contest area. Dylan Mullen also placed 6th individually, which is a huge accomplishment and is the highest individual placing for our chapter in this contest ever! Congratulations to the Forestry team on all of their hard work and accomplishments!
