Next FFA Meeting |
The next
chapter FFA meeting will be held on Monday, October 21st at 7:00
P.M. in the Ag. Center. The Ag. Challenge that will take place after this
meeting is the pizza-eating contest. Each class will need two boys and two
girls to participate.
Upcoming Events |
Ag Breakfast: The next
Ag. Breakfast will be held on Friday, October 4th at 6:15 A.M. at
Tee JayeÕs. ÒI hope to see at least 55 bright and shiny faces ready to eat
delicious Tee JayeÕs food on Friday morning,Ó says Josh Metzon enthusiastically.
Fair Booth Set-Up: Each year, many of the chapter's members complete projects in class that
are then displayed at the fair. Projects range from leaf scrapbooks and
woodworking projects to welding and electrical displays. These projects will be
displayed in our chapter's booth in the FFA display barn, which is located near
the goat barn and 4-H booth display building. Mr. Sharp will be setting the booth up after school on Friday,
October 4th. Any members who are able to help with this, please let Mr. Sharp and/or Mr. Tilley know in class.
State Forestry CDE: This
yearÕs State Forestry team will be competing at Hocking College on Saturday,
October 5th at 9:00 A.M. The team, consisting of: Adrian Wymer, Austin Stai, Josh Metzon,
Katerina Sharp, Dylan Mullen, Kaylee Reed, Kelsey Adkins, Ashley Pritchard, and Shaylyn Stai, will have to compete
multiple tests and practicums. They will be tested over leaf ID, forestry
tools, timber cruising, chainsaw parts, tree and forest problems, and map
reading. The team must also complete an online test as part of the contest. As
many of the CDEs that the chapter participates in, this is a very challenging
contest and requires a lot of practice. Good luck to the team!
Ag. Issues Forum: Members of
this years Ag. Issues team are: Katerina
Sharp, Kaylee Reed, Devon Mullen, Susan Householder, and Katie Krile. The topic that the team has
chosen to present this year is over hydraulic fracturing, which is a very controversial
topic at this time in Ohio and many of the surrounding states. The team had to
create a mini performance, and will be presenting it to different community
groups for the following month. The state contest will take place at Wilmington
College on Saturday, November 9th. This contest requires a lot of
time and effort, as team members have to write their script, make their power
point, and memorize all of their speaking parts.
Soils CDEs: The
District 7 Urban and Rural Soils CDE, will be held on Tuesday, October 1st at 9
A.M. in Pickaway County. This yearÕs Urban Soils team consists of Billy LÕhuillier, Katie Roark, Mack Smith,
and Haley Bigham. This yearÕs Rural
Soils CDE team consists of Austin J.
Smith, Keaton Baldwin, Joey Drake, Rachel Stoneburner, and Lilly Seifert.
National FFA Convention: There are
several things that are different about National Convention this year. First
off, convention will be held in Louisville, Kentucky instead of Indianapolis,
Indiana, where it has been held in recent years. From this year on, the
National FFA Convention will be on a three year rotation, so in 2015 it will
move back to Indianapolis. Due to the amount of participation within our
chapter, members had to fill out an application to be eligible to attend.
Members who participated in the most chapter activities and received the
highest score will be able to attend this fall. This year's convention will
also be taking place from Wednesday, October 30th to Saturday, November 2nd.
This is a much later date than usual. Each year at convention, our chapter
attends multiple sessions of the conference, the Buckeye Bash, and various
educational tours that are set up by Mr.
Tilley. There are nearly 55,000 FFA members and guests who attend the
convention each year. All members who received a paper from Mr. Tilley should have already turned in
their $75.00 deposit. Mr. Tilley
should have a tentative schedule out to all of these members very soon!
Fall Fruit Sale: The fruit sale this year starts on
Thursday, October 17th and goes until Thursday, November 24th. This is by far
the chapter's biggest fundraiser and all funds go to help pay for chapter award
pins, hog roast, contest registrations, the banquet, etc. All members are
encouraged to participate. Any members who sell 25 or more boxes or baskets of
fruit will be eligible to attend the Louisville Trip this February. Mr. Tilley and Mr. Sharp will give members more information about these events in
class.
Past Happenings |
Ag. Breakfast: Ag. Breakfast this past month took
place on Friday, September 6th at Tee Jaye's. As always, the food was great and
members had an enjoyable time. All members are encouraged to attend the next
Ag. Breakfast, as these events are always fun and social events.
FFA Meeting: The September FFA meeting took place
on Monday the 16th in the Ag. Center. There were over one hundred members in
attendance at the meeting and all members are reminded that the monthly FFA
meetings are required events. The Ag. Challenge that took place after the
meeting was the straw bale toss, with the junior class taking the win.
Farm Science Review: Farm Science Review took place on Wednesday,
September 18th this year. This event lasts for three days and consists of
hundreds of agricultural booths, displays, and demonstrations. Our chapter took
two busses to the event again this year.
District 7 Forestry: The Forestry CDE team this year
consists of: Adrian Wymer, Austin
Stai, Josh Metzon, Katerina Sharp, Dylan Mullen, Kaylee Reed, Kelsie Adkins,
and Shaylyn Stai. The district
contest took place at Knox Woods again this year, where the team placed 2nd.
Though all of the team members placed well individually, Dylan Mullen placed 2nd overall, which is very exciting.
Congratulations to the Forestry CDE team and good luck at State!
Ohio Legislative Leadership
Conference: OLLC is a conference that is held in
Columbus at the Ohio State House for FFA members and their advisors to get the
chance to speak to state legislatures and directors. This event used to be the
COLT Conference, which was more of a leadership opportunity for members. This
was only the second year for this event. The morning started out with FFA
members attending a workshop, run by the Ohio Farm Bureau, where they learned
about lobbying, the government, and how to speak to legislators and inform them
of their chapter's many accomplishments. Following this, the state legislators
and FFA members attended a luncheon and converse. The members from our chapter
that attended this year were Katerina Sharp,
Emmy Hollar, Adrian Wymer, Devon Mullen, and Susan Householder. This was a great opportunity for both our
members to meet and learn about the people who run our government and for our
government leaders to learn more about the amazing opportunities that the FFA
has to offer youth.
Ice Cream Social: The Ice Cream Social this year took
place on Wednesday, September 4th. Although all chapter FFA members were
encouraged to attend the event, it was designed a few years ago specifically
for new members and their parents. Parents and members arrived at 7:00 P.M. for
an introduction, before being split into groups by the assistant officers.
Members were then led to different classrooms where the FFA officers informed
them of the many different opportunities that they would be presented with as
an FFA member in the Amanda-Clearcreek FFA Chapter. While this was happening, Mr. Tilley and Mr. Sharp talked to parents in the cafeteria and answered any
questions that they had. Following this, returning members arrived and everyone
at ice cream and played games until 9:00 P.M., when the event ended. This has
proven to be a very important event for both new members, but especially
parents, so that they can learn about the FFA and better understand everything
that the chapter does and is involved in.
Fall Trap Shoot: This year's Fall Trap Shoot took place again at the Green residence on Sunday, September
29th. Food was provided by the chapter and the Greens and members who attended
had a great time! A big thank you goes out to the Green's for hosting this event and for providing outstanding bean
soup!

The
National Beef Ambassador Program is for youth advocates of the beef community
to represent the beef industry. Members of this five panel team will spend one
year traveling the nation and informing consumers about the journey that beef
cattle take from the pasture to the kitchen table. These specially selected
youth will also be educating students and consumers about beef nutrition, food
safety, and stewardship practices of the beef community. There are four
different categories in which contestants must compete in for this honor. They
must demonstrate their ability to respond to an industry article, show how well
they can present their knowledge by educating consumers and answering
questions, complete a report, and participate in a mock media interview.
Earlier this year,
