Next FFA Meeting |
The next
monthly FFA meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:00 P.M. in the
ag center. The Ag Challenge for this meeting will be Tug of War. Each class
will have both male and female teams, with up to 5 members on each. Freshmen
will go against sophomores, and juniors will go against the seniors and the
winning classes will then compete.
Upcoming Events |
Ag Breakfast: The next Ag
Breakfast will be held at Tee JayeÕs on April 4th at 6:15 A.M. All
members are encouraged to attend this event, where they will have the chance to
socialize with friends and eat great food!
Mulch and Flower Bulb Sale: The
Amanda-Clearcreek FFA Chapter is currently in the midst of their spring mulch
and flower bulb sale. All members are highly encouraged to participate, as the
funds from this enable the chapter to go on all the exciting trips and activities
that they do. If there are any questions, or any interest in sales, either talk
to an A-C FFA member or feel free to call (740) 969-7381 and leave a message.
Hocking College Natural Resource
Showcase: On April 25th, members from our chapter
will have the chance to attend the Hocking College Natural Resource Showcase,
held at Lake Snowden. Members of the Forestry, Nature Interpretation, and
Wildlife Management CDE teams can attend this showcase to learn more about some
of the classes and courses that Hocking College has to offer. It will be an
excellent opportunity for these students to learn more about a prospective
college that offers courses they may be interested in.
Envirothon: On April 29th,
our chapter will send two teams to the Envirothon, held this year at Tar Hollow
State Park. The Envirothon is an event put on by the Ohio Federation of Soil
and Water Conservation Districts and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources
which testsÕ students knowledge of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology,
and current environmental issues. Each school may send five students on a team,
and the winners from each of the five district contests then move onto the
state contest. This will be an excellent opportunity for members of our chapter
to have an opportunity to show their knowledge in these areas.
Alumni Pizza Fundraiser: Included
in this monthÕs newsletter, there is also a flier for the Amanda-Clearcreek FFA
AlumniÕs fundraising night at the Pizza Cottage in Lancaster. On April 10th,
from 4 P.M. to 10 P.M., Pizza Cottage will donate 15% of their profits from
anyone who brings in the attached coupon to the A-C FFA Alumni. The money
raised from this will be put towards providing scholarships to seniors, and to
help pay for the Memorial Awards, which pay for two members every year to the
Washington Leadership Conference. This will be a good event to socialize with
friends, and help our A-C FFA Alumni.
Past Happenings |
Ag Breakfast: On March
7th, members of our chapter participated in the monthly ag breakfast held at
Tee JayeÕs. It was a good opportunity to socialize with friends over great
food, and there was a great turn out of members.
Young Leaders Conference: On March 7th,
16 members of our chapter went up to OSU to attend the Young Leaders
Conference. It was a fantastic opportunity, where participants went to one
leadership session, one professional development session, attended a career
fair, met with the fraternity and sorority that helped put on the event, and
ended the day with a tour around the ag campus. Members gained valuable insight
into leadership techniques and developing themselves as professionals in the
agricultural field. Members who attended this event were: Killian Lott, Makinzie Garee, Kassidy McClure, Samantha Young,
Lillianna Seifert, Haley Bigham, Courtney Smith, Sydney Stinson, Josie
Montoney, Emmy Hollar, Adrian Wymer, Devon Mullen, Austin Stai, Kayla Luft,
Kaylee Reed, and Susan Householder.

new assistant officers for the 2014-2015 officer team were announced. The new
assistants are as follows:

Luft

Assistant Treasurer: Carlie

Spring Skills Contests: Recently,
seven of our spring skills CDE teams participated in the Marysville Invitational
and the Ashland Invitational. At Marysville, Wildlife Management placed 12th,
Poultry placed 16th, Nature Interpretation placed 3rd,
Meats placed 13th, General Livestock placed 31st, Equine
Management placed 6th, and Agronomy also placed 6th. At
the Ashland Invitational, Wildlife Management placed 4th, Poultry
placed 14th, Nature Interpretation placed 6th, Meats
placed 14th, General Livestock placed 14th, Equine
Management placed 12th, and Agronomy placed 16th.
Proficiency Awards: For a
member to be eligible to fill out a proficiency award, their SAE project must
first be Ag. related. They must then fill out a strenuous application and turn
in their completed project book(s) and their general record book. These will be
judged at the state level and the top 4 in each category will be recognized at
the State FFA Convention. Members who make it to state will then have to
complete a project book and an interview at the Ohio state FFA Convention in
the spring. This takes a lot of extra time and effort, and it is a massive
accomplishment for a memberÕs proficiency award to be in the top 4 in the
state. The following list is the members who completed their proficiency award
application, their proficiency area, and their placing in that area at District
