Past Happenings

Zoo Trip: On Friday, December 20th, FFA members who sold 10 or more boxes or baskets of fruit had the opportunity to go on a trip to the Columbus Zoo to see the lights. This is a fun activity designed to reward those members who took it upon themselves to sell fruit in order to help support the chapter. There were 40 FFA members scheduled to attend.

Holiday Food Drive: Each year our FFA chapter partners up with the Amanda Fire Department to help provide food for families in our community who are in need. FFA members walk through Amanda and Stoutsville, leaving a bag at every house. The following week, members went back and collected all of the bags of food that residents in the community had left outside and took everything back to the Ag. Center to be sorted, repacked, and taken to the Amanda Fire House. Members also took bags home with them for their own homes and to give to their neighbors. This year our chapter helped to gather approximately 1,200 pounds of food from Stoutsville and Amanda for the Chelsea Hedrick Food-Drive. The chapter would like to send out a big THANK YOU to all of those in the community who donated. This would not be possible without their help.

St. JudeÕs Fundraiser: On Saturday, December 7th, A-C FFA members had the opportunity to go to J.B. Robinson Jewelers in the River Valley Mall to sell Teddy Bears for St. Judes ChildrenÕs Research Hospital. This is the second year our chapter has helped with this event. The bears were $12.99 a piece and all proceeds raised from this event went directly to St. JudeÕs. For every 14 bears sold, one childÕs entire cancer treatment at St. JudeÕs was paid for. There were 16 bears sold.

Agricultural Communications: The Ag. Communications team competed on Saturday, December 7th at the state contest. They placed 2nd in the state. The Agricultural Communications Contest requires student knowledge and understanding of the various forms of communication within the industry of agriculture. Each chapter was able to take a team consisting of three members that must submit a 12 page written media plan. Each member of the team then had to complete a journalism quiz and complete an editing exercise, using all proper AP style marks and laws. Each member of the team was then assigned to complete an individual practicum. This yearÕs practicum areas were radio broadcasting, graphic design, and a press release. Following this, the team presented a project proposal. This yearÕs team consisted of: Josie Montoney - 6th in the state, Kaylee Reed – 10th in the state, and Kayla Luft – 35th in the state. There is a lot of hard work and dedication required for this contest. Congratulations to the Ag. Comm. team!!!

Ag. Breakfast: Due to school being cancelled on the 6th, the Ag. Breakfast this month was not held until Friday, December 13th. The breakfast took place at 6:15 A.M. at Tee JayeÕs. There were 31 members present. As always, Ag. Breakfast is a fun event that takes place each month for members to eat good food and socialize. All members are encouraged to come!
