Next FFA Meeting

          The next monthly FFA meeting will be held on Monday March 23, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. in the Ag center. This will be the first official meeting held by the new 2015-2016 officers! The Ag challenge for this meeting will be Tug-of-War.

Upcoming Events

Ag. Breakfast: the next monthly Ag breakfast will be held on Thursday, March 12th at 6:15 at Tee JayeÕs. Ag breakfast is a wonderful experience for members to have fun with friends and family before the school day!

212¼ Leadership Conference: This conference has been rescheduled for April 18th and the 19th. At this Leadership Conference FFA members come and participate in many activities led by State Officers and influential speakers.

District 7 Officer Training: Officer training will be held on March 11th at Fairfield Union High School, along with their new assistant officers. This is where the officers will be broken up into groups based on their office. They will be meeting other members and advisors from different chapters, and they will discuss ideas about how to lead their chapter in the best way possible. They will also learn how to be the best at their office.

Upcoming Contests:

District Agricultural Power Diagnostics CDE: This contest will was held at the Franklin Equipment Company in Groveport. Billy LÕHuiller and Cody Roark are participating in this contest. Billy and Cody placed second in this contest area, which involves 3 to 6 tractors that have 2 problems each. The goal is to find the problems with each tractor.

Upcoming Contests: State General Livestock: This is a contest that tests the members knowledge and understanding of beef, swine, and the sheep industries. There is no limit on the number of people on the team, but the top three scores will be the team of record.  The members on this team are: Aubrey Meenach, Carlie Krile, James Smith, Desirae Logsdon, Austin Shannon, Tyler Frazier, Megan Porter and  Cole Kleinline.

District 7 Ag. Mechanics Skills: This tests the studentsÕ knowledge of mechanical tasks ranging from welding to brazing to electrical wiring. The members participating in this contest are: Austin Shannon, Cody Roark, Tyler Hopper, Nelson Craycraft, Austin H. Smith, Garrett Smith and Tre King. This contest will be held at Teays Valley High School.

Agronomy: This contest quizzes the members knowledge of the crop industry. This contest consists of the identification of crops and weeds, along with the identification of insets and pests. The members who are competing in this CDE are: Austin J. Smith, Cody Roark, Riley McClure, Sara Doner, Devon Mullen, Dylan Mullen, and Susan Householder and  Maddie Helser.

Equine Management: For this contest each member will be tested on their knowledge of the classes of horses, identification of tack, poisonous weeds, the identification of forages, and hay. There can be an unlimited number of members on this team but the top three scores will decide the teams score. This years team consists of: Joce Palombo, Ellie Tipple, Rachel Hizey, Mary Schmelzer, Izzy Lytle, Hannah Robinson, Casey Brewer, Mattie- Grace Hamilton, Makayla Green and Emmy Holler.

Nature Interpretation: This contest will test the studentsÕ knowledge and understanding of wildlife. This contest consists of knowing the identification of mammals, equipment, songbirds, non-woody plants, reptiles, and amphibians. This team  consists of: Trevor Young, Lexie Kougher, Kaylee Reed, Ruth McNight, Mallory Seitz, Lilly Seifert, Sarah Streets  and Johnathon Hackworth

Upcoming Events:

Poultry: This years poultry team consists of: Cordel Young, Johnny Lemaster, Killian Lott and Becca Woida. In this contest studentsÕ will need to know how to identify meat cuts, candling eggs, judging of live birds, and know the identification of carcasses.

Wildlife Management: The student must understand wildlife for this contest. There is a written test along with the practicum of identifying mammals, gamebirds, forbs, trees, shrubs, game fish, and equipment. This years team consists of: Kayla Luft, Josie Montoney, Haley Bigham. Ashley Pritchard, Sydney Stinson, Billy LÕHuillier, Dustin Bresler, Josh Metzon, Michael Montoney.

 

Past Happenings

 

Ag Breakfast:  The annually Ag breakfast was held on Friday, February 6th at Tee JayeÕs. at this Ag breakfast we had 43 members attend.

Ag Sales: Four of our members have participated in the Ag Sales CDE contest, and the members who make up the team are: Sydney Stinson, Adrian Wymer, Kayla Luft, and Alek Doss. The Ag Sales team placed 5th in the district.

Top Fall Fund RaiserÕs Trip: Recently 24 of our members and 9 parents went on to the National Farm Machinery Show and Tractor Pull in Louisville, Kentucky. These members left on February 13th and returned on the 15th. In order to be eligible to go on this trip had to have sold at least 25 boxes/baskets of fruit. The members attended tours that consisted of: the Dayton Air force Museum, the Clark County Historical Society Museum, Youngs JerseyÕs Dairy Farm and the truck and tractor pulls. This trip as an award for those who sold 25 boxes or baskets of fruit or more.

Public Speaking: This past Saturday the 7th at the State FFA Public Speaking Competition Samantha Young in the Senior Prepared division, Josie Montoney in the Extemporaneous division, and Lexie Kougher in the Beginning Prepared division all won the STATE in Public Speaking. Emma dearth also competed in the Creed area where she earned a top six rating in the state of Ohio, which is the highest any A-C FFA member has ever placed in the state creed competition. This is one of the most competitive Career Development Events that an FFA member can compete in. This is unprecedented in the state of Ohio. No other school in Ohio has ever accomplished what our members did. Samantha and Josie will continue on to represent the State of Ohio at the National competition next fall in Louisville, Kentucky. Congratulations to Samantha, Josie, Lexie, and Emma for not only setting a school record, but also setting a mark that has never been done before, and may never be done again, in the state of Ohio.

Officer Elections: At the February meeting we elected our new 2015-2016 Amanda Clearcreek FFA officers. President is Josie Montoney, Vice-President is Sydney Stinson, Secretary is Lexie Kougher, Treasurer is Carlie Krile, Reporter is Mallory Seitz, Sentinel is Austin J. Smith, and our Student Advisor is Billy LÕHuillier. Congratulations to our new FFA officer team. We are proud of you!!
