Next FFA Meeting

          The next FFA meeting will be Tuesday May 19th at 7:00 P.M. in the Ag. Center. This is the last meeting of the school year. The assistant officers will running this meeting, instead of the normal officers. At this meeting there will be no Ag. Challenge instead, there will be a cookout for all the members. The class that has won the most Ag. Challenges will get a steak dinner along with hog dogs. This is a great opportunity for members to get a nice meal and socialize.

Upcoming Events

Ag. Breakfast: Our next annual Ag Breakfast will be held on May 8th at IHop.

State Convention: This is something that our FFA chapter attends annually. The state Convention is held at the Ohio Expo Center and has several different sessions. This year State Convention is held on April 30th and May 1st. During the sessions state officers and well known presenters speak about previous experiences and developing leadership skills. During the convention there is also the election of the new state officers. This year we have several members being recognized at the convention.

A-C FFA Awards Banquet: Our chapterÕs annual awards banquet will be taking place on Saturday, May 9th at 4:00 P.M. This is a wonderful time for all the members and their families to have a good meal and reflect on the achievements of the past year. There will be several awards given out along with a game or two. Members must also wear official dress if you have a jacket. Everyone is invited, family members, FFA alumni, and community members. For the people attending this is a potluck dinner so you are asked to bring a covered dish, Mr. Tilley and Mr. Sharp will be handing out more information about the food details at a later time. I hope that everyone will attend.

Upcoming Events Continued:

Top Spring FundraiserÕs Trip: Our chapter sells mulch and flower bulbs as a fundraiser each spring. This trip is for the top 15 salesmen, who sell over 150 bags of mulch as well as the 2 top flower bulb salesmen.  This year the trip will be down in West Virginia at the New River. Members going will be white water rafting and camping. This yearÕs trip will be on May 14th, 15th, 16th  and 17th.

Baby Animal Farm:  This is where FFA members can show the younger students their animals. It gives them the opportunity to learn about the different animals, and maybe learn something knew. Members usually bring horses, dogs, rabbits and other farm animals. Some members bring in exotic animals such as snakes, tarantulas, etc. The younger students can hold and pet the animals while the older students tell them about the animal. The Baby Animal Farm is being held on May 19th.

Ag. Issues: This years Ag. Issues team consists of: Sydney Stinson, Samantha Elder, Sarah Streets, Carlie Krile, Emma Dearth and Mattie Grace Hamilton. The team will be competing at the State FFA Convention on April 30th at the Ohio Expo Center. In this contest members must pick an agricultural topic and present their findings to a panel of judges.

Ag. Breakfast: AprilÕs Ag. Breakfast was held at Tee JayeÕs on April 10th.

212¼ Leadership Conference: Recently some of our members went to the 212¼ Leadership Conference on April 18th and 19th, and was held at Union Local High School. This was an over night training activity held by state officers and influential speakers. The goal of this is to promote leadership skills to all FFA chapters, as well as meet other FFA members.

Past Happenings Continued:

Promising Young Leaders Conference: This event was on Monday April 13th at the OSU campus. At this conference students learn more about the agricultural field, and see if it interests them. This conference is a great chance for students to also improve their leadership skills, experience professional development, advance in communication abilities, and have a blast while doing it. Students also have the opportunity to meet with professionals from the agricultural field.

Greenhand Quiz CDE: Mikayla Hicks, Emma Dearth, Shalyn Brown, and Sarah Doner were the top four members of this contest. Other members participating in this event were: Noah Smith, Lydia lafferty, Carlie Peiratt, Mattie Grace Hamilton, Katie Vickroy, Maya Knox, Becca Wodia, Delany Chester, Jennifer Seas, Riley McClure, Cole Kleinline and Jaylnn Fausnaugh. This contest is open to any new member in the chapter.

Animal Health: Recently this team consisting of: Mikayla Hicks, Katie Vickroy, Desirae Logsdon and Ashley Pritchard all competed in the state competition at the Ohio Expo Center on April 15th. This team placed 13th in the state.

Aquarium Management: This years team placed 8th in the state. The team consisted of: Makinzie Garee, Austin Stai, Dylan Mullen and Adrian Wymer. Inthis contest members must identify aquatic animals and equipment.

Animal Management: This years team consisted of: Billy LÕHuillier, Mallory Seitz, Samantha Elder, Courtney Smith and Kylie Freisner placed 11th in the state. In this contest members identify household animals and equipment.

212¼ Leadership Conference: On April 18th and 19th some of our members went to the leadership conference and learned a great deal. At this conference students learned about building better character, and better leadership skills.

 Ag. Communications: On April 25th Samantha Young, Kaylee Reed and Josie Montoney won the state competition and Josie placed first in the state. We are very proud of all three women, they did a wonderful job. In this contest members are tested on their knowledge of the agricultural industry.
