Next FFA Meeting

The next A-C FFA meeting will take place on Monday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m. in the Ag Center. If you cannot make it to the meeting, make sure to give a note to your Ag teacher the day after the meeting. The challenge for this meeting will be the Team Pizza Eating Contest. In this event, two males and two females from each grade level will need to eat a large pizza in the shortest time possible. The chapter advisors will choose the toppings on the pizza.

Upcoming Events

Ag Breakfast: The October Ag Breakfast will take place Friday, October 4th at 6:15 a.m. at Frisch's in Lancaster.

Fair Booth: On October 4th, Mr. Sharp and Mr. Tilley will need help after school to set up the A-C FFA booth at the fair. Members will be asked to move projects onto the display stairs carefully, so this will take a bit of time. If you can help, please see one of the advisors.

Fairfield County Fair: From October 7th through the 11th, students from Amanda-Clearcreek will be out of school for the Fairfield County Fair. The fair is a week-long event where students will exhibit the projects they have been working diligently on. The Amanda-Clearcreek FFA will have a booth with the other county FFA chapters, held in the Ed Sands Farm Bureau Building, to show the public the class projects members have worked on for the fair.

Fruit and Snack Sale: The Amanda-Clearcreek FFA Chapter will be starting their annual Fruit and Snack sale after fair. Mr. Sharp and Mr. Tilley will explain to the members how this works and how the proceeds will go to the chapter to help pay for future activities. If interested in any fruit or snack packs, feel free to contact any FFA member or Mr. Tilley at the school.

Fall Flower Bulb Sale: The Amanda-Clearcreek FFA Chapter has started its annual Fall Flower Ball sale. All orders are due October 14th, and as a reminder, these sales help members earn FFA Buxx.

National FFA Convention: This year, the National FFA Convention will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, from October 30th through November 2nd. To attend this event, members needed to fill out an application that was found on our chapter website. Make sure all school fees are paid, and that grades are in good standing, to ensure eligibility to attend. During this trip, members will be able to go to various sessions of the convention, the Buckeye Bash, various educational tours set up by our Ag Teachers, and most likely a concert! As soon as Mr. Tilley knows who is attending, he will hand out tentative schedules to those members. We would also like to wish good luck to the Agricultural Issues Forum team: Morgan Anderson, Kyle Hicks, Kiley Holbrook, Allie Poston, Ellie Sahr, and Kaylee Sharp as they compete at National Convention. Also, Aaron Sharp will be competing in the National Extemporaneous Speaking CDE contest, while Sara Sharp will be competing in the National Creed Speaking contest. All of these members are competing at Nationals as a result of winning their respective state CDE contests this past school year.

Save the Date: The Amanda-Clearcreek’s annual Hog Roast will take place on November 13th, so mark your calendars!

CDEs

Forestry CDE: The Forestry CDE gives members the chance to learn how to identify different kinds of trees, forestry tools, how many board feet of lumber can be cut and used from a tree, how to use a compass, and how to identify the type of wood used in everyday products. This Career Development Event also consists of bark and leaf ID as well as an online test that took place on September 24th. The Forestry CDE team this year consists of A.J. Dossman, Cade L’Huillier, Landon L’Huillier, Jay Sahr, Trevor Spence, and Jules White. There has already been a County Forestry CDE contest, and on September 19th there was the District 7 contest where the team placed third. The State Forestry CDE contest took place on September 28th at Hocking College where our team placed 7th in the state of Ohio. Congratulations to the team for devoting so much effort towards this contest. Special mentions go to the Team of Record, Trevor Spence for placing sixth in the state, Cade L’Huillier, Jules White, and Landon L’Huillier.

Past Happenings

Ag Breakfast: The September Ag Breakfast took place Friday, September 6th at 6:15 a.m. at Frisch's.

Big E: September 13th-15th proved to be a hugely successful weekend for the chapter at the Eastern Regional (Big E) Career Development Event contest in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The A-C Forestry CDE team consisting of Garrett Drake, Bryson L’Huillier, Jake Shamblin, and Trevor Spence placed first in their respective contest. In addition to their first-place team win, Trevor Spence took home second place laurels, while Bryson L’Huillier placed fifth, and Jake Shamblin secured a seventh-place finish. Furthermore, Aaron Sharp placed first in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE. He will next compete at the National FFA Convention this fall in Indianapolis, Indiana, on behalf of the state of Ohio. Also, Morgan Anderson placed second in the Employment Skills CDE. Not only did these members represent the A-C FFA Chapter, but they also represented Ohio FFA. There were FFA members from twelve different states at this contest, marking quite an accomplishment for A-C FFA members. Congratulations to these A-C FFA members, and an outstanding finish to all of their hard work!

Farm Science Review: Each year, there is a three-day expo held for agricultural equipment and products near London, Ohio, at OSU’s Molly Caren Agricultural Center. This year, our chapter attended the expo on September 18th. At this expo, members had the opportunity to learn about the newest agricultural technology and equipment that is used in the agricultural industry. We had 84 FFA members attend this trip.

OLLC: On September 25th, Morgan Anderson, Stephanie Bowers, Kyle Hicks, Allie Poston, and Jullian Scott attended the Ohio Legislative Leadership Conference held at the Ohio Statehouse. This event was run by the Ohio Farm Bureau and focused on teaching members how to best communicate with legislators regarding agricultural topics. The workshop was followed by a luncheon where our members got to sit and talk with Senator Kenny Yuko’s Congressional Aid, Patrick Hunter.
