Safety Hazards

Twenty-nine tractor-related fatalities occured in West Virginia from January 2000 to July 2005.

The average age of the operators of these accidents was 58. The ages of these operators ranged from 31 to 85 years of age.

Sixty-six percent involved tractor overturns, and 21% involved people being pinned by a tractor. The other 7% were caused by power takeoffs.

Every accident except one included a male operator of the tractor.

Fatalities can also be caused by fire, manure gases and electrocutions.
